Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
