Top-ranked Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
