The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will End... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
