Supporters Urge Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are calling for that a man who jumped a fence and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also faulted guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, earning two for best costume and production design.
