Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months after leading disrespectful songs targeting their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Challenges
The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
