New England Match Longest Winning Streak Since Brady Years with Win Over Jets
Rookie Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
The New England Patriots tied their best victory streak since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division opponents the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in 2019
QB Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory bolsters the New England's advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to cap the New York's opening drive
But the home team responded in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He desires to be great."
Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third period to close the gap for the visitors but Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots closed out the triumph
