Individual That Touched Ariana Grande during Film Launch Banned from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped across a fence and grabbed actress Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told Singaporean press.
The man shoved through camera crews and rushed toward the actress and singer, who was participating in the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of disrupting concerts and celebrity events, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the UK city in May 2017 took the lives of 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Protection personnel intercepted him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared video clips thanking Grande for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Police arrested him the subsequent day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Court Judge Christopher Goh was cited by Channel News Asia as saying that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was wrong to assume he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the case.
The co-star mentioned the situation to a media outlet, saying that she "just wanted to verify my co-star was safe."
"I believe he didn't mean us harm, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to confirm that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she commented.
