The athlete recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to present the victors with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
