Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.
All aircraft movements were halted because of an technical fault that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.
An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
