Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
